Our collective progress towards achieving Enough for All

8 June 2022

The strength of the Enough for All strategy was highlighted for us again last year as it has continued to be a credible and reliable north star of the system changes that are still needed to make poverty history in Calgary.

I am proud of the work that United Way and Enough For All moved forward together in 2021, a year that challenged us all, especially those experiencing poverty. The root causes of poverty need to be met with practical solutions that support youth to complete high school, build strong and inclusive communities, and create ethical space with Elders and Indigenous community members.

What the Enough for All strategy proposes is that Calgarians come together. Not to have the same conversations we’ve already had or affirm the status quo. We aren’t just here for incremental change. We are challenging the charitable model, pushing to prevent poverty as well as reduce it, in order to transform the lives of Calgarians and apply generational thinking.

Momentum was pleased to partner with Vibrant Communities Calgary to advance Enough for All. Last year, Enough for All partners continued to provide opportunities for Calgarians living on low-incomes to reduce their debt and build savings through the Aspire financial empowerment collaborative despite the challenges of the pandemic. For example, over 4,835 participants filed their taxes in 2021 through 652 tax clinics offered by 16 agencies and received a collective total of $3,481,176 in refunds.
